Rat Pack Snack Sheet for Pet Rats

When people think of rats, most of them say “ew” or “gross”. Contrary to myths, domesticated rats do not carry diseases infectious to humans.

I have heard one too many times people dismissing rats as some kind of disgusting rodent that belongs in a sewer.

As someone who works at a pet store, my goal is to educate our clients on the proper care for animals that so many people dismiss.

Rats are similiar to humans in a lot of ways, which means they can eat a lot of different human foods. They don’t just eat packaged rat food you buy at your local pet store or order online.

These intelligent critters should have fresh foods off of the list below everyday. They can even have left overs off your dinner plate!

I have also heard of a few rat moms feeding their rat a strict raw diet. Which is perfectly healthy for them, just like it is for dogs and cats.

Rats are a popular pet so this gives them the attention they deserve. Good for you. A rat is friendly, communicative and, as I found thanks to an interview we did with Healing Whiskers, they can be Therapy animals. This is amazing. Imagine doing good when you are such a small creature 🙂

A printable is a fabulous idea as people can pop it on the fridge and never forget! We need more printable in the world and maybe people will think twice before they start squealing when they see a rat *sigh*

I think rats and mice are cute. Rodents make great pets. I had a gerbil as a kid and loved him so much. I had no idea that rats could eat so many different thinks, including a raw diet. Makes sense.

Okay I have to be honest. I am one of those people who thought the same thing. Don’t rats carry diseases? I didn’t know domesticated rats don’t. Hmm…interesting to also know they enjoy more than scraps but real human and raw foods. Learned something new today.

I think they are smart, affectionate and fun to train. I wonder how much my little dog would enjoy having a rat for a friend! I kinda looked into them when I saw that photoshoot that was done of rats sleeping with their teddy bears….I wonder what the travel policies are…hmmmm….

Love the tip sheet, what a great and convenient way to help all the ratties out there! When I was a kid, we kept mice and hamsters (Mom wouldn’t let us have rats). But I’ve always been an admirer of their intelligence.

My best friend once surprised me years ago with two pet rescue rats, and they were among the best. pets. EVER! I loved them so much, and they were shockingly low maintenance, snuggly, and chill. These are great snacking tips for pet rats!

As a kid I had white mice as pets but rats have always scared me although today I can say the fear is disappearing as I read more and more about them as pets. Your snack sheets are really interesting and a wonderful teaching tool for those that do not know much about them, thank you

We loved having hamsters and guinea pigs as pets as kids. Mom was allergic to most other animals, so the tiny furry pets were what we were allowed to have. I’m not sure if rats were in pet stores back then. I remember seeing mice and thinking they were cute too, but then the pet store guy said they were snake food and we couldn’t have one.
